One hundred leaders of high road partnerships came together in a first-of-its-kind national meeting March 23-24 in New York City. The meeting created opportunities for networking and analysis of the principal needs among leaders of existing and emerging partnerships. It was convened by the Working for America Institute, with financial support from the Ford Foundation.

BACKGROUND
Over the past two years the Institute has been working closely with union affiliated high road partnerships across the nation. Leaders of established, new, and potential partnerships came together to:

  • Update each other on the progress of the existing partnerships
  • Explore the technical assistance needs and availability both for existing and new partnerships
  • Identify the contributors to and inhibitors of partnership growth and development
  • Introduce and network potential new partnership efforts to the existing partnership leaders
  • Share the Institute's forthcoming High Road Partnerships Report
  • Develop a long term working relationship between the AFL-CIO Working for America Institute and the Ford Foundation in support of High Road Regional Partnerships.

PARTICIPANTS
Participants included representatives from existing high road partnerships and leaders and key staff from international unions, councils and state federations that are engaged in preliminary efforts to form new consortia and partnerships as well as selected individuals, support organizations, Institute staff, Ford Foundation representatives, and key officials from the AFL-CIO and the U. S. Department of Labor.
