The Road to Sector Success: A Guide for Workforce Boards : Many WIBs are using sectoral strategies to strengthen their outreach to the business community. This publication, jointly developed by the National Association of Workforce Boards (NAWB) and the National Network of Sector Partners (NNSP), provides some “how-to” steps for adopting sector strategies and the lessons learned by those who have tried. The report also lists the AFL-CIO Working for America Institute as a resource in this area.

Reinventing Workforce Development: Lessons from Boston’s Community Approach , Geri Scott and Jerry Rubin (2004, 23 Pages). A year after an acrimonious strike that pitted the union representing the men and women who clean Boston’s office buildings against the companies that manage many of those buildings, SEIU Local 615 Voice and Future Fund and seven employers entered into an innovative partnership. They agreed to develop career ladders for the people who clean the city’s office buildings. This report describes the initiatives start-up lessons for workforce development reforms throughout the nation.
