The AFL-CIO Working for America Institute is offering a set of services in
support of the Job Coach, an interactive web-based tool that is
designed to help workers engaged in a job search. These services help unions
address lay-offs and job loss constructively, with a focus on the concerns
and experience of the affected workers.

workers:

financing for Job Coaching services.
HOW DO THESE SERVICES HELP WORKERS?
Combining Job Coach with support services from the Working for America
Institute helps union members facing lay-off or looking for new jobs and
expanded careers learn step-by-step to:
- Assess their skills: a self-assessment program walks
users through their own detailed work histories so that they themselves
identify their work-related skills
- Identify New Jobs and Careers: an occupational section
shows workers how their skill sets transfer among occupations and dramatically
broadens their range of new job choices;
- Target a Job Market: a geographical feature allows
users to choose the counties where they want to work and shows them
the best jobs and wages in their target fields and areas;
- Tailor a Resume : an accurate skills assessment helps
tailor compelling resumes for growth jobs, based on the user’s
unique work history;
- Prepare for an Interview: by focusing on their specific
job skills and achievements, workers can prepare to market themselves
effectively in interviews;
- Estimate Appropriate Salaries: detailed wage information
helps a user make informed job choices and salary requests, neither
under- nor overestimating competitive wages in a selected job and county;
- Build a Network: combined job seeking skills support
users as they build a contact group to broaden their job search.
